Following their collaborations on Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980), and others, two-time Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro and Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese re-teamed for this dark comedy. Zealous aspiring comic Rupert Pupkin collaborates with an obsessive fangirl (Sandra Bernhard) to kidnap their favorite late-night host (Jerry Lewis). A critical darling that was a box office failure upon its release, the film has since become a pop-culture touchstone.
